Mountain Biking in Verbier
Descending from Lac des Vaux to Croix de Coeur
Verbier is better known for its skiing, but those who discover it in summer tend to come back. The riding here is exceptional — high alpine singletrack, technical rocky descents, flowing trails through pine forest and meadow, ridgelines with views that stop you mid-pedal. The 4 Vallées lift system, built for winter, becomes one of the great mountain biking infrastructures in the Alps from June onwards.
The Bike Park
The Verbier Bike Park runs between Fontanets at 2475m and the village at 1535m, with seven lift-accessed tracks covering a wide range of ability and style. Beginners can find their feet on flow trails with glacier views, while more experienced riders can work on technical skills over roots and rocks with the Grand and Petit Combin as a backdrop. Lap after lap is the natural approach here.
On the La Tzoumaz side, a long flow trail with sweeping views across the Rhône Valley offers a gentler introduction to alpine riding — perfect for those new to mountain biking at altitude.
Natural Enduro
At around 2200m, a mountain access road traverses the bowl of Verbier giving easy access to a wide variety of natural enduro trails. Riding options for all levels lead all the way down into the Val de Bagnes — one of the great descents in the region when conditions are good.
The Big One
The Verbier lift system reaches 3300m. From the glacier at 2950m it is possible to ride all the way to the valley floor at 800m — over 2000m of descent in a single run on trails that justify every metre of the climb. Then take the lift and do it again.
From Chalet la Vigne
The chalet sits in Patier with direct access to several of Verbier's best summer routes. The ride to Croix de Coeur — 650m of ascent on quiet roads followed by singletrack, alpine meadows and a well-earned beer — starts from the door. The Croix du Six Blanc, Ride 14 on Verbier's official Carte VTT, is another favourite: a 750m descent and 1300m climb rewarded by excellent singletrack.
For guided rides and bike hire, we recommend MTB Verbier — a team of local experts who know literally every trail in the region.
Verbier in summer is a different mountain to the one skiers know. Quieter, greener, and in many ways just as good.
