The Verbier Festival — World Class Classical Music in the Alps

Chalet la Vigne couldn't be better placed for the Verbier Festival. A short walk across the meadow from Patier brings you directly to the Salle des Combins — Verbier's main concert venue — without setting foot in a car. For guests with a love of classical music, the location alone makes July and August at Chalet la Vigne something special.

What is the Verbier Festival?

The Verbier Festival is a two week annual international music festival held in late July and early August in the mountain resort of Verbier, Switzerland. Founded in 1994, it has grown into one of the most prestigious classical music events in the world — remarkable for both the calibre of its performers and the intimacy of its setting. Where most major festivals take place in large cities, Verbier brings the world's greatest musicians to a small Alpine village, creating an atmosphere that is unique in the classical music world. What makes it special?

The festival is celebrated not just for its headline concerts but for the access it provides. Open rehearsals and masterclasses allow audiences to witness the raw process of musical creation, providing a deeper understanding of the art form. The boundaries between students and masters are uniquely fluid — you might find yourself at lunch next to a legendary soloist who performed the previous evening. Nicepage

The festival nurtures young musicians through its academy and three orchestras — the Verbier Festival Orchestra, the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, and the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra. The Prix Yves Paternot recognises the most outstanding young talent each year. Squarekicker

The 2026 Edition

The 33rd edition of the Verbier Festival runs from 16 July to 2 August 2026. Over 19 days, more than 60 concerts and 100 masterclasses will bring together the biggest names on the international scene alongside emerging talents. JPK Design CoSQSPThemes

The opening concert is conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen, making a long-awaited return to Verbier. Other highlights include Simon Rattle — one of the most beloved conductors of his generation — and piano legends Evgeny Kissin and András Schiff performing together in an exceptional duo programme. Così fan tutte completes a Da Ponte trilogy that has run through recent editions.

Concerts take place primarily at the Salle des Combins and the village church, with tickets ranging from CHF 30 to 220. Tickets and the full programme are available at verbierfestival.com.

Staying for the Festival

July and August in Verbier are warm, unhurried and extraordinarily beautiful. The mountains are green, the terraces are full, and the evenings — after a concert at the Salle des Combins — are long and golden. Chalet la Vigne's covered terrace, a five minute walk from the concert hall, is the ideal place to end one.
