Verbier in Summer — Fun Things to Do

Verbier is a different place in summer. The lifts are quieter, the village calmer, and the mountains — freed from ski traffic — reveal themselves as something else entirely. Green valleys, wildflower meadows, high alpine lakes and trails that go on for days. If you've only ever seen Verbier in winter, you're missing half the story.
Hiking
The trails around Verbier are exceptional. A few of our favourites from Chalet la Vigne:
The simplest starting point is the front door. Trails from Chalet la Vigne lead directly up through Patier to the chapel at St Christophe, continuing to La Marlénaz restaurant for a well-earned lunch, and on to the summit of Pierre Avoi for those with the legs for it. A full range of ambition catered for, all without getting in a car.
Descending to Lac Louvie and the Cabane de Louvie, part of the Sentiers des Chamois hike from Verbier
The Sentier des Chamois begins at La Chaux and winds through high alpine terrain to Lac de Louvie — a stunning glacial lake where a summer swim is very much encouraged. Lunch at the Cabane de Louvie before descending to Fionnay, where a bus brings you back to Verbier. A full day, well spent.
For something more ambitious, the hike from the Mauvoisin dam to the Cabane de Chanrion takes around 90 minutes through scenery that earns the walk many times over. The cabane serves a very decent rösti. An exceptionally scenic day out in the Val de Bagnes.
Swimming at Champex Lac
A short drive from Verbier, Champex Lac is one of the most beautiful alpine lakes in the Valais — a perfect summer's day out. Swim in the clear mountain water, take a pedalo, or simply sit and enjoy the surroundings over a long lunch at one of the lakeside restaurants. Quiet, unhurried and genuinely lovely. Exactly the kind of place you stumble across in the Alps and immediately want to return to.
Climbing

The Guides de Verbier run excellent guided climbing days here and at many other sites in the area, making climbing accessible to anyone with a head for heights and a spirit of adventure. Via Ferrata
For those who want to take their mountain experience vertical, the Mauvoisin region offers “via ferrata” routes across three levels of difficulty — from challenging to genuinely terrifying. Fixed cables, iron rungs and ladders take you up rock faces that would otherwise require serious climbing experience, making extreme alpine terrain accessible to those with a head for heights and a taste for adventure. The sense of accomplishment at the top is hard to match. Guided by the Guides de Verbier, who know every route intimately, this is one of the great summer thrills the Val de Bagnes has to offer.
Mountain Biking
Covered in more detail in our mountain biking guide, but summer in Verbier is a serious destination for riders of all levels. Over 2000m of lift-accessed descent, natural enduro trails and singletrack from the door. We recommend MTB Verbier for guided rides and bike hire.
Paragliding

A tandem paragliding flight from the heights of Verbier with the Mont Blanc massif and Grand Combin spread out below is hard to beat. We recommend Stuart and Mike Belbas at Verbier Summits — experienced local pilots who know this airspace intimately. Flights are available throughout the summer and make for a memorable hour that puts the scale of the Alps into perspective.
The Verbier Music Festival
Chalet la Vigne couldn't be better placed for the Verbier Music Festival — a less than 10 minute walk across a meadow brings you to the Salle des Combins, Verbier's main concert venue. Every July and August, Verbier transforms into one of the great classical music destinations in the world. Now in its 33rd edition, the 2026 Festival runs from 16 July to 2 August, with over 60 concerts and 100 masterclasses bringing together the biggest names on the international scene alongside emerging talents. Concerts also take place at the village church, with tickets available at verbierfestival.com. It is one of those events that makes you glad to be in exactly this place at exactly this time.
Golf
Verbier has its own golf course with views that make it genuinely difficult to concentrate on your swing. For something more serious, the Golf Club de Sion — around 45 minutes down the valley — is one of Switzerland's finest courses, set amongst the vineyards of the Valais with the Alps as a backdrop. Worth combining with a wine stop in Sion on the way back.
Wine and the Valais
The canton of Valais is one of Switzerland's finest wine regions and often overlooked by visitors focused on the mountains. A day trip down to Martigny or Sion opens up a world of Fendant, Humagne and Cornalin — grape varieties rarely found outside Switzerland. Worth combining with a visit to the Fondation Gianadda in Martigny, one of the great small museums in Europe.
